Keeping Your Bicycle Protected
For bicycles, you’re at a slight disadvantage that they’re typically lighter and can be carried away. To avoid this, there are a few products you can use. At home, a shed Guardsman barrier works to make the entryway of your shed obstructed by the Guardsman’s telescopic arm. It sits tall enough that the average motorbike cannot be lifted over (due to weight) or rolled under. The guardsman shed barrier also comes with built-in anchor points that you can secure your bicycle to.
If you’d like to forgo the Guardsman shed barrier, a standalone anchor point might be more your speed. The ground anchor is fixed to the ground at your home and ensures that none of your vehicles can be carried off or wheeled away. Of course, a security chain is not grinder proof, and the grinder is the preferred weapon of a thief. For this reason, we highly recommend adding additional security products.
The basics in cycling security
It’s our opinion that every bike owner should at least be investing in the ‘basics’. By basics, we mean a padlock, security chain and alarm lock. These should be the base of your cycling security and can be used at home or on the go.
The basics do work best when secured to something else, either a ground anchor or if you’re on the go, an immovable object such as a post.
Simply put, the best form of cycling security is a lot of it. If it is easy to access your bike’s place of storage, consider beefing up the external security with a Zovii alarmed padlock for a shed door or garage defender for a garage. This will make entering the building that much more difficult from the off which may be enough to deter the opportunist thief.
Once inside, you will want to use an anchor point to physically secure your bike so that it doesn’t get stolen. Our Apex Pro ground anchor along with a security chain and padlock is the perfect combination for the security of your bike.
When you’re out and about consider an alarmed padlock and chain, D-lock, and disc lock. These locks are handy enough to fit in your backpack or coat pocket and provide a brilliant layer of defense.
Your best option is a garage or a shed. Consider the security of the building externally, how secure is the door, is it well lit, can the would-be criminal see my goods through a window? Internally ensure your bike is physically secured to an anchor point using a security chain and padlock.
The basic bicycle security should include (at the very least) a bike security chain. This is most useful when you’re on the go as you can secure your bike, with the security chain, to an object such as a bike post. Also, locks can be used to secure your bike to something, lock it up at night, and secure your wheels. We stock a variety of locks, including padlocks, shackle locks, D-locks, and alarmed chains and locks.
Disc locks are brilliant for securing your bike on the go. Attach the disc lock to the wheel and you’ve got a 14mm carbide reinforced locking pin to keep your bike from being ridden or wheeled off.
These measures make it difficult to attack your security and protect your bike in the best way possible.
In 2021, there were over 64,500 bicycle thefts in the UK. Other reports suggest that one bike is stolen every 90 seconds, equating to around 376,000 bicycles each year.
There are a few simple steps that can help your efforts go a long way. Whether you’re on the go or storing your bike at home, you need to ensure you’re maximising your cycling security and making your bike as difficult to steal as possible.
You should always be layering your security products to make it as hard as possible for thieves to get your belongings
The basic e-bike security should include a bike security chain at the very least. Bike security chains can be used to secure your electric bike to an immovable object, such as our Apex Pro ground anchor. This is most useful when you’re on the go as you can secure your bike, with the security chain, to an object such as a bike post.
Also, locks can be used to lock up your electric bike to something at night and secure your wheels. We stock a variety of locks to do this including padlocks, shackle locks, D-locks, and alarmed chains and locks.
These measures make it difficult to attack your security and protect your electric bike in the best way possible.
